Position Title: Before and After the Bell Counselor

Basic Function: The Counselor will be responsible for providing an appropriately safe, caring, and enriching environment for the children enrolled in the program. Counselors are responsible for conducting themselves in an appropriate manner, setting an example for children, parents, and co-workers.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, Counselor will:

  • Comply with agency policies and procedures; comply with all emergency procedures appropriate to the site in order to maintain a safe environment for participants
  • Assume a role in the implementing of day to day program activities
  • Maintain accurate documentation of attendance, absences, and emergency information on each child. Positively identify parents before releasing children.
  • Supervise participants, enforce program rules, and keep a consistent headcount on all children present; communicate all changes with other staff
  • Work in a team environment and encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents, co-worker, and Recreation Supervisor; provide a good working relationship with school staff
  • Assist in the maintaining of clean-up schedules, including janitorial duties necessary to maintain the facility or vans
  • Assist in the maintaining of supplies, equipment, and materials; inform Recreation Supervisor when new/additional supplies are needed
  • Identify safety concerns to Recreation Supervisor and Site Director
  • Directly supervise and assist with the day to day activities of the program

Minimum Qualifications: Counselor must be of legal age to work in Illinois and demonstrate an ability to lead, supervise and maintain the safety for children ages 5-12 years old.

Special Requirements: Candidates should have prior experience working in a child care environment or similar workplace. Successful candidates will also have direct child care experience with knowledge of creative problem solving, disciplining of children and child development. An ideal candidate is reliable, dependable and communicates effectively.

Position Title: Before and After the Bell Counselor

Basic Function: Camp Counselors will assist in planning and implementation of activities in the summer camp program. Counselors will be directly responsible for the supervision and safety of registrants.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, Camp Counselor will:

  • Comply with agency policies and procedures
  • Maintain a safe environment for participants
  • Participate in the planning of camp activities
  • Participate in the implementation of camp activities
  • Supervise participants and enforce camp rules
  • Maintain an open line of communication with Program Coordinator
  • Appropriately communicate with participants and parents
  • Identify safety concerns to the Program Coordinator
  • Chaperone participants’ trips to off-site locations

Minimum Qualifications: Camp Counselors must be of legal age to work in Illinois and demonstrate an ability to lead, supervise and maintain the safety for children ages 6-12 years old.

Special Requirements: Candidates should have demonstrated experience in situations supervising children. Successful candidates will also have direct camp experience with knowledge of creative problem solving, disciplining of children and child development.

Title: Teen Camp Director
Hours Per Week: Approximately 12-32 hours per week
Dates: 5/25/26 – 8/1/26
Wages: $18-$21 per hour depending on qualifications.
Qualifications: Applicants must be 21+ years of age and hold a valid driver’s license. Applicants should be responsible, have strong leadership and communication skills. Previous volunteer and childcare experience are preferred.

Description: The Teen Camp Director oversees both the Leaders in Training (LIT) Camp and Volunteer Camp at The Community House, providing hands-on leadership, supervision, and mentorship to teen participants throughout the summer. This role works closely with Summer Day Camp staff to help prepare LIT campers to become confident, engaged counselors while ensuring all campers have a safe, organized, and meaningful experience.

During the 4-week LIT Camp, the Teen Camp Director plays an active coaching role – leading training sessions, modeling positive counselor behavior, and supporting LITs as they assist with group activities, lesson plans, and daily camp responsibilities. The Director provides weekly feedback through coaching forms and one-on-one meetings, helping LIT campers grow in leadership, responsibility, and professionalism.

The Teen Camp Director also leads the 5-week Volunteer Camp, introducing teens to a variety of community organizations and encouraging curiosity, participation, and enthusiasm for service. This position includes supervising campers, delivering weekly orientations, transporting groups to off-site locations, and maintaining a positive, supportive camp environment. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys mentoring teens, values community engagement, and thrives in an energetic summer camp setting.

Benefits: You will be eligible to participate in The Community House’s benefit plans according to their terms; as such plans may be amended from time to time. As a temporary, short-term employee, you will accrue one (1) Paid Time Off (PTO) hour for every 40 hours worked.
